The Netherlands became independent from Spain in the year 1581 upon the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht, and formed the Republic of the United Netherlands. The front of this coin features a knight standing holding a bunch of arrows and a sword, encircled by a legend which translates to: "Concord makes power-Holland". On the reverse is a tablet with an inscription which translates to: "A coin of the United Dutch Provinces according to the law of the state".
